Evidence-based process for working with clients

This assignment requires you to research the best practices in social work as they relate to engagement, assessment, and intervention. The assignment is designed to encourage students to utilize the research literature in determining appropriate techniques and guidelines for assessing clients and for intervening with clients and families.

A minimum of ten credible sources are required, and these sources should include a minimum of academic journals appropriate to the social work profession. Two sources may be web sources of professional and/or governmental websites (org, .gov or .edu). Sources should be dated 2019 or later This is a formal research paper and should be written using the APA format for research papers (including headings, title page, introduction and conclusion), citations, and references. The word count for your paper should be approximately 2500-3000 words.

Address the following:

1. Introduce the topic, problem, or population you are researching, e.g. children, elderly, families, a racial or cultural group different from your own, mentally ill, immigrants, hospitalized patients, etc. Discuss what you hoped to learn when you began the research project.
2. Engagement – Using the research literature (credible sources), identify the most appropriate techniques to engage members of this population. The following questions should guide your work in this section: What skills or techniques do I need to have to work most effectively with members of this population? What are the best ways to engage and build rapport with members of this population? What do I need to be aware of to engage in ways that are culturally sensitive?
3. Assessment – Using the research literature (credible sources), identify the most appropriate techniques to assess members of this population. The following questions should guide your work in this section: What information do I need to obtain to address the client’s needs effectively? What are the best techniques to use to obtain this information? What are some best practices for assessing the cultural domain?
4. Intervention – Through your research, locate and discuss information about social work intervention with the clients you have chosen. Discuss three or four methods or strategies for intervening with this population around a stated problem that is discussed in the literature. For example, in working with parents, describe some approaches to parent education that are identified in the social work literature or describe methods for intervening with children around the problem of anger management.
5. Discussion – Conclude your paper by reflecting on your learning. The following questions should guide your work in this section:
