- Advocate for why the filibuster should be kept in the Senate
- Need to have 10 diverse souces: Newspaper, academic journal, article (peer-reviewed), government documents, magazines, thinktanks, or books from 2020 or newer. Use Lexis Nexis if possible. Use at least 2 block quotes up to 4 lines (0.5in indent)
- 5 pages, Times New Roman, Size 12, Double spaced
- Introduction– includes thesis statement, should preview arguements that will be made in the paper, find a quote from research to start intro, do not need any background information.
- Body Paragraphs– Topic sentence that builds on the thesis, two sentences in your own words (explain what the argument is), 2-3 pieces of evidence per body paragraph, use own words to connect evidence to the topic sentence
- The last body must be a counter-claim about why the filibuster should be abolished
- Conclusion– summarize arguments covered in the paper, center the argument in a current or future debate, should not be profound or ask rhetorical questions
- Don’t use passive language in any of the paper
- Research/quotes = good, can use a much as you want
- Work cited ordered alphabetically
