please if you can watch both movies and write about similarities in the theme. try to incorporate that bruno and ferris are both carefree individuals. i would do this myself but I’m extremely sick and its due on May 8th.
GUIDELINES FOR THE FINAL PAPER
* Please type and double space (12pt, Times New Roman font).
* Limit the paper to 3/4 pages maximum.
* Assume you are writing for a “cinemate” viewing public, familiar with the film you are considering and conversant with the criticism on it, as well as any technical terms you may want to bring to bear.
* DO NOT give a plot summary.
* Begin by stating your specific approach to the film, or the specific argument you wish to advance, spell out the ramifications of your argument.
* Be sure to substantiate everything you say with reference to concrete examples from the film itself.
* Do not make vague generalizations that could apply to any number of films in the same genre.
* Show that you have seen the film and thought deeply about some aspects of it.
Your grade will be based on:
a) SPELLING AND GRAMMAR (absence of glaring errors of spelling and grammar)
b) ORGANIZATION AND CLARITY OF THOUGHT (tightness, structure, and coherence of argument)
c) TONE / USE OF LANGUAGE (avoidance of a “conversational” tone, avoidance of repetitive word choice and redundant statements, etc. DO NOT ABBREVIATE: the paper is not a text message)
Ø For starters, a paper must have a title and an introduction, in which you will in fact introduce the topic you are analyzing. You should expand the concept expressed in your title, which should already give a hint on the analysis you will be doing.
Ø After the introduction, you will enter the core of the analysis, in which you will start to criticize the movie/movies and the central topic of your essay.
Ø DO NOT REWRITE THE PLOT. You must mention scenes and/or sequences because they are important for the point you are demonstrating. BUT DO NOT SUMMARIZE THE MOVIES.
Ø The first time you mention a movie, you also have to cite, in parenthesis, the director and the year of production. The title of the movie needs to be either in Italic, or in quotes. No need to repeat that information each time you mention the same movie.
Ø You MUST use at least two sources, and quote them, not because you need to have them in the body of the paper, but because you will intertwine them with your discourse. They need to help you demonstrate a point, so use them as support. Or you can use them to disagree with whomever wrote them and use them as a starting point for a strong criticism. In any case, use them, do not just stick them in the paper because they are mandatory to use!
Ø When your analysis is over, you will need a conclusion, that is not a repetition or a summary of what you just wrote. It’s a paragraph in which you wrap up your criticism. It is like closing the circle opened with the introduction. You can reuse some of the concepts analyzed but be careful to avoid reusing the same expressions or words. Or you can close with some quotes, or even close with an idea that could be expanded in another paper. But do not rewrite the concepts you have already analyzed.
Ø You must have a FILMOGRAPHY (a list of films you have cited) and a BIBLIOGRAPHY (a list of works you have quoted) at the end of the paper, in a separate page.
Ø REMEMBER TO BE DETAILED, INSIGHTFUL, AND FULL OF OBSERVATIONS. TRY TO BE ORIGINAL, CREATIVE, CRITICAL. Do nor state the obvious, try to push yourself beyond that. SEE things in these movies and talk about them.
