A report to advise the United Kingdom on ways in which psychology can help to optimise information gathering practices for vulnerable suspects by applying principles 2 (practise) and 3 (vulnerability) on the ‘Mendez Principles’-
our report MUST contain the following sections:· A short ‘INTRODUCTION’ explaining the reason(s) for writing the report (i.e., the aims of the report). The intention here should be to capture immediate interest and attention. Introduce the Mendez principles to set the report in context. (approx 300 words)·
A ‘LITERATURE REVIEW’ section that succinctly outlines the scope of your topic and the key points and issues arising from it, referring to psychological theory and research (approx 900 words).·
The penultimate section should provide a clear summary of ‘RECOMMENDATIONS’ resulting from the foregoing subject review for the reader to consider. These should be in bullet point or list format (approx 200 words).·
The report should end with a ‘CONCLUSION’ that provides a very brief summary of key elements within the report and recommendations made with some reinforcement of the benefits to be gained of applying psychology in this way (approx 100 words).
The MENDEZ PRINCIPLES must be used as reference throughout the whole report. The reference for this is: https://www.apt.ch/sites/default/files/publications/apt_PoEI_EN_11.pdf
- the introduction should describe what the mendez principles are, what investigative interviewing is and other components of the report. What this report plans to do, what are The aims of the report
- In the literature review i would like 450 words on principle 2 (practise) and 450 words on principle 3 (vulnerability)
- the section on principle 2 I would like to be based on the PEACE model of investigative interviewing. This should be easy to follow, just use each letter of the acronym to explain how this can improve information gathering (Planning and preparation, engage and explain, account, closure, and evaluate)
- maybe include 2-3 recommendations and explain them well and how it would benefit investigative interviewing
I have briefly started the principle 2 section of the literature review so please start with this: ‘The interviewee’s treatment before, during and after an interview is integral for gathering reliable information and protecting human rights. Principle 2 of the Mendez principles demonstrates the need for effective and accurate interviews while protecting the fundamental rights, including right to fair trial, right to humane treatment, of persons suspected of crime (Association for the prevention of torture, 2021).
