Close Reading/Analytical Essay: Please note that, this is a close reading, analytical essay. You do not need to do outside research for this essay. However, you may use any material from the course that I provide in the weekly modules. You may do outside research, but the focus is on close reading; therefore, you should quote extensively from the text(s) you include, analyzing the quotes you use from the novel to support your assertions.
Option One: There There
Choose one or more of the following themes (if you want to examine a theme not listed here, you may use it) and write a close reading essay examining how the novel explores the theme(s) throughout the novel. Use quotes from the novel as support.
- Storytelling
- Healing from Trauma
- Generational Trauma
- Interconnectedness
- Resilience
- Place
I chose GENERATIONAL TRAUMA
In addition, please reflect on how the novel addresses one or more concepts that we examined in Week One.
General Guidelines for all options:
- Page Requirement (minimum): 4 pages (1000 words) typed pages, 12-point font, Times New Roman plus a Work Cited page.
- Format Style: MLAโModern Language Association
- Since this is a close reading essay, close textual analysis is paramount. Please quote from the sources to use to illustrate your points. Use MLA format to get in and out of quotes and provide a Work(s) Cited page.
- You are not required to do outside research in this paper, but please use any of the resources shared in Canvas as support if they are applicable, and Option Three requires this. If you have a great source to use, feel free to share it with me, and I will let you know if it is appropriate to use. However, keep in mind, this is largely a close reading essay focused on the novel and materials provided in the class so far.
