Without constraints to budget or casting, you are an Artistic Director for a Musical Theatre Company and you are preparing to present your idea for the next season to your Board of Directors. The next season’s theme is: “A Journey Through American Musical Theatre.” They need to approve the season and you are committed is a season that will be more successful than ever.
Please choose 4 different musicals from four different decades write your season presentation explaining why you choose each musical as an important reflection of the development of the American musical and collectively will make an interesting season. Do not repeat any composer or lyricist. Be sure to include differing music styles, production scope, content, (ie do not do 4 classic musicals or 4 concept musicals.) Please discuss what you think the audience will gain from each choice, (you and the Board are very interesting in audience engagement.)
You are encouraged to use video clips and artwork as part of your presentation. You may find your season works as a chronological season, earliest to most contemporary musicals. Or, you may find your season works best with the style of the musicals themselves. Or, you may discover an innovative approach all your own! Whichever path you choose, please make sure to include a variety of shows.
You must site 3 different sources in your exploration the season’s shows. (Wikipedia will not be accepted as a source for this paper.)
