You are to write a paper (seven to ten pages) on a literary topic related to the assigned novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, in some way.

Think about questions like this:

• Does the novel contain a great deal of symbolism? Perhaps you could write a paper that deals with the author’s use of symbolism in the novel.
• What themes are present in the novel? Do certain images or lines reappear throughout the text?
• What is the tone of the novel? How does setting influence the tone of the novel?
• Which characters do you find most interesting? Why? How do those characters function within the overall narrative of the novel?
• Does the novel use mythological imagery or refer to other works of literature or art? How does the author use these allusions?

You may choose to address standard fiction elements such as theme, characterization, symbolism, allegory, irony, realism, or settings.

History papers and biographical papers are not acceptable for this assignment.
