Practice and the Workplace
All people need medical care. Stigma, bias, and systematic inequalities in health care settings can hinder individuals from receiving the support and care every patient deserves. In addition, public policies can contribute to social environments, worsening or alleviating the stigma of being a sexual minority.
For this assignment, you will examine the health care laws and policies addressing the LGBTQ+ community.
Directions
- Write an introduction on systemic health care inequalities and the role of the APN/APRN.
- Identify LGBTQ+ health insurance laws within your state of residence. (FLORIDA)
- Examine the impact on your workplace environment.
- Explain how diversity, equity, and inclusion impact health outcomes.
- Identify the role of two possible stakeholders (e.g., individuals, community, health care teams, and policymakers) in collaborative efforts to ensure a diverse and inclusive health care system.
- Examine how the quality of care for LGBTQ+ individuals is affected by your state’s government funding.
- Discuss how ethical behaviors in nursing leadership impact health equality and social determinants of health.
- Identify strategies to prevent personal biases impacting compassionate patient care.
- Write a conclusion presenting key takeaways.
This paper should be 4–6 pages long, not including the title and reference pages.

- This assessment should be a 4- to 6-page Microsoft Word document, in addition to the title and reference pages.
- Support your paper with a minimum of three scholarly references.
- Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of concepts, topics, definitions, and other elements asked for in the questions. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
- Your submission should provide a clearly established and sustained viewpoint and purpose.
- Your writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
- Your submission must be written in Standard English and demonstrate exceptional content, organization, style, and grammar and mechanics.
- A separate page at the end of your submission should contain a list of references in APA format. Use your textbook, the Library, and the internet for research.
- Be sure to include references for all sources and to cite them using in-text citations where appropriate. Your sources and content should follow current APA citation style. If the work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned for revision. If the work submitted does not meet the minimum submission requirements by the end of the term, you will receive a failing score.
