Critically review the literature on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and AttentionDeficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), focusing on the diagnostic challenges and complexities surrounding the identification and differentiation of the two conditions

• Medical model and tick list approach of the current diagnostic manuals • Similarity of symptoms in ASD and ADHD • Categorical diagnoses vs continuum/spectrum paradigms and the change of diagnostic manuals • Heterogeneity in both disorders – many presentations, levels of severity, subtypes etc. • Differential diagnosis – the ability to differentiate between the two disorders • Dual diagnosis of ADHD and ASD • Assessment difficulties • Assessment tools and their suitability, validity, reliability • Difficulties caused by comorbidities • Issues causing missdiagnoses and missed diagnoses • Pressures for no diagnosis. o Incorporate empirical evidence and discussion of research to support your arguments relating to each of the points you discuss o Refer to research included in the slides + Book chapter and furthermore include relevant recent research (from further reading) o Critical analysis of content + critique of studies (methodology, sample etc.) o In addition to original research you can include meta-analysis studies Conclusion Summarise key points from the main body of the review in order to reach an overall conclusion/position.
