In this assignment, you will continue to work on the case study you are developing (Module 1). You will create either a curriculum-based measure (CBM) or a behavioral intervention which you could use to gather data and monitor the progress of the student in the case study.
- Create a 3 to 5-page paper (not including the title and reference pages) in a Word document for your response.
- Use APA format for the paper, the title page, the references page, and in-text citations.
- Develop an introduction and conclusion for your paper.
- Follow the directions to submit your final Word document.
Step 1: Access
Access this resource for use in the assignment: Curriculum-Based Measurement: A Manual for Teachers, at www.interventioncentral.orgLinks to an external site.
Step 2: Apply
Reflect on the case study you developed in Module 1, and consider the following. This is critical information to have in the pre-referral process and will be looked at by the Child Study Team as consideration for referral to special education services.
- Describe the symptoms of concern for the student.
- Describe all interventions tried thus far and the level of success with each intervention.
- Describe the student’s present academic levels of function.
Step 3: Construct
Identify an area of potential student need you would like to assess. Describe the curriculum-based measure (CBM) you would use to assess the student need.
Describe how you would administer the CBM and what data you would collect to determine the baseline and monitor student progress.
Write a SMART performance goal, and describe one intervention you would suggest for your case study.
Include any materials you may need, specific instructions for the student, the duration and frequency of the assessment to be administered and how you plan to collect data.
Step 4: Reflect
Consider the assessment you designed and discuss the obstacles you may face if you were actually implementing this. What might you do to overcome any roadblocks you may encounter? Describe at least two instructional strategies you might change with this student if you were not observing adequate progress.
Step 5: Compile
Compile the information gathered in each step into a paper. Compose an introduction and conclusion for your paper.
Step 6: Submit
Submit your final 3- to 5-page paper.
