This is the METHODOLOGY section of a thesis paper. You need to make some changes based on the existing file. I have decided to conduct an interview with 3-5 participants and I did not got to the site to collect any data (which is different from the outline). In the appendix, please also include the interview questions, maybe about 10 questions. Please find the previous chapters in the attachment. Please take good care of this chapter because I will need to ask you to finish the rest in the next few months.Topic: Integrating Visual Arts into STEM Education: Enhancing Creativity and Scientific Understanding in Chinese Public Schools (attached)
Chapter III
Methodology
(6-8 pages roughly)
Begin by reminding readers of your Research Question.
Methodology
What tradition of research will your study align with? Based on the literature on research methods, set forth the goals and methods of this type of research. Explain why this type of research is appropriate to your Research Question. (You may draw from more than one method).
Design of the Study
Site
Where will you conduct your study? Describe relevant social and physical aspects of the site in detail.
Participants
Who will your participants be? How many? What age? Talk about their background if relevant. What are the criteria for their selection? What is your relationship with them?
Researcher’s Role
What will your role as the researcher be (participant, non-participant)?
Data Collection
Intervention (if applicable)
Are you creating any special circumstances, processes or interventions in order to conduct your study? Describe them as clearly as you can.
Interviews
With whom? Why is this form of data collection appropriate? What type of interview will it be: open conversation, open-ended interview guide, structured interview, semi-structured, reflection sheet, etc.? Why? How many times, how often, for how long, over what period of time will you do this? How will you record your interviews (written notes, video-recording, audio-recording)? Why?
Observations
Of whom? Why is this form of data collection appropriate? Will you be a participant or an outside observer? Will you do it overtly or covertly? Why? How many times, how often, for how long, over what period of time will you do this? How will you record your observations (field notes, mapping, video-recording, audio-recording)? Why?
Documents
Of what type (archives, reports, curricula, images, student work…)? Why is this form of data collection appropriate? Why are these specific documents relevant? Where and how will you get them?
Journals (if applicable)
Kept by whom (researcher, participants, both)? For what purpose? Why is this form of data collection appropriate? Will there be any guidelines for journal entries? What will they be? Why these guidelines? Who will define them? How many times, how often, for how long, over what period of time will you and/or participants do this?
Limits of the Study (logistical)
What are the limits of your study? Consider your setting, your participants, your role as researcher, the timeline, the processes and objects involved (if any).
Data Analysis
How do you anticipate you will organize and make sense of your data? Describe the process. Will you come up with themes and categories? How? Will you code the data? How? Will you write up narratives? How will you go about these processes? How will you ensure trustworthiness? In short, how will you arrive at your findings? How will you present them?
Positionality
What subjectivities do you bring to this study? To answer this question, it might help to consider your personal and epistemological relationship to this study–the questions, the site, the participants, etc. How might your subjectivities influence the study? Is there anything you might want to do to temper any of your subjectivities?
Ethical Considerations
How will you make sure that participants agree to participate in the research? How will you ensure that they feel comfortable and safe at all times? Will they benefit or be in jeopardy in any way? How will you ensure fairness in their treatment–and in that of non-participants? If minors, who and how will give you permission (school principal, teacher, parents)? Include relevant form(s). Is it important that you keep their anonymity and/or that of the setting? If so, how will you do this?
