For this Discussion Forum, you will need to select a 4-5 minute video of an INFORMATIVE speech on YouTube to evaluate. Be sure to select a speech that contains research and consider how the credibility is established for that research in terms of the CRAAP test. Take note of how the speaker has given attributions for the sources — or not given attributions.
The “ideal” video selection will also include visual aids and a PowerPoint presentation.
The speech you select may be given by a professional, a celebrity, or a “random” student who published a video on YouTube. It may also be a video clip from a speech given in a movie. However, be judicious in your video selection. Do not waste your classmates’ time by posting a speech that was not well developed.
Watch, listen and analyze the speaker carefully to answer the questions provided. Include a hyperlink to your video selection in your posting so that your instructor and your classmates may watch the video before commenting.
Answer the following questions to begin your discussion with your classmates about the speech content, visual aids, and delivery of the speech you selected:
- Identify two types of research that the speaker used to convey her information. How did the speaker establish her credibility by the use of this research for her speech?
- Identify three types of nonverbal communication utilized by the speaker. How did these nonverbal behaviors engage his audience to keep their attention throughout the speech?
- Identify the type of visual aids that the presenter used during her speech. Discuss the professional nature in which he used the data, revealed the visual aid, and then managed the viewing of the aid after speaking about the data.
