The basis of what I want to emphasize is that I began working front desk at an optometry place, but was asked to become a technician instead. I performed testing and operated machines to prep the patient for the doctor, the doctor would teach how to interpret images and causes of eye diseases. I became intrigued by this as well as when I would be asked to scribe for the doctor and he would let me look at the patient’s eyes and show me the scans and testing results. He also saw many kids and adults with corneal deformations that required medically necessary contacts, which I find the most intrigueing of how hard lenses can correct the shape of the eyes and drastically improve vision. I was not familiar with optometry as I don’t wear corrective vision and have 20/20 so this experience was valuable with how much information I learned about the field. My ggoals for the future is to open a clinic that specializes in corrective contact lenses, as well perform retinal and glaucoma evaluations. This would be rewarding to treat patients of all kinds and make them feel heard during their eye exams to deliver the best quality care.
