The research question: What are the concerns about facial recognition technology and are the concerns exaggerated due to moral panic involving privacy invasion and surveillance?
First, in 100-200 words, explain what the concern is in a basic, factual way.
Then, in a section of 300–500 words, explain how one of the information literacy frames (Links to an external site.)(authority is constructed, research as inquiry, searching as strategic exploration, information has value, scholarship as conversation, and information creation as a process) can be used to understand what’s real and what’s not in this cybersecurity concern, or how you can fact-check the hype.
In a second section of the same length, do the same thing with a second frame.(300-500 words)
Finally, in a concluding section of 200–300 words, explain your findings about whether and to what extent this concern is overblown because it’s caught up in a moral panic. Does reporting and public debate match up with the reality of the concern? Use your discussion of the two information literacy frames, in the previous sections, to talk about what’s being understood well and what’s being understood badly.
Before submitting, find and include at least one Creative Commons licensed image according to instructions in the tutorial from the previous module. Note: The Creative Commons image must be related to the topic of your paper.
You must also use at least five sources in the paper. Each use should include a paraphrase and a citation in whatever citation style you are most comfortable with. In-text citations should be included throughout as appropriate. At least five sources must be scholarly. Sources can be cited in multiple places if you like, and may be used to serve a variety of purposes as described above. Sources should however be appropriate to their use—for example, an article from an untrustworthy website filled with misinformation would not be appropriate for the factual description of the cybersecurity issue at the start of the paper, but may be an excellent source if you are using it to illustrate how moral panics have distorted the issue in public debate. Three of the five sources must be peer reviewed journal articles.
