Requirements
Individual students are required to choose a heritage site for study; conduct site visit, background research of the site in Hong Kong or Greater China.
This individual essay assignment encourages students to explore relevant theoretical perspectives learnt throughout the semester in examining the trend of digitalisation strategies in cultural heritage management (social media content creation and impact measurement, digital preservation strategies such as the design of series online games, curation of online exhibitions, VR experiences, the use of 3D scanning etc) and to reflect on the application of digital media and visual communication tools to digitally document and share activities and events in relations to intangible cultural heritage using images and succinct text.
Objectives
Heritage site may have different reasons for using digital technologies. In this individual assignment, the project should aim at a digital project either for the purposes of public education, social and new media engagement and content curatorship/presentation. Requirements include but not limited to the following:
● define the objectives and scope of the digitalization project, and explain the rationale for it against the existing shortcomings or limitations of the site;
● describe the project design, use of digital technologies / applications, flow
and implementation of the project;
● explain and justify the use of digital applications among the various choices
and their pros and cons with respect to the value(s) and objective(s) that the
proposed project would like to achieve;
● provide evidence of theory/ research/ government or industry report proof
regarding the feasibility of the project; if appropriate, prototype of the digital
application shall be provided;
● user feedbacks and impact evaluation in form of testing, prototyping, trial
uses shall be included in the proposal;
● the final assignment should be in the form of a written proposal, together with
all the analyses and necessary documentation mentioned above; minimum words for the proposal shall be 3,500 words.
