In this clinical activity, students will create a short vodcast (a video of themselves), that describes a current news item that addresses an issue or concern related to social services and/or public assistance programs. Students will discuss risk and protective factors related to the incident and explore the historical events and legislative initiatives that contribute to the current state of this problem. Application of the Public Health Interventions Wheel is also included in this assignment.
- Each student should create a 7-8 minute vodcast report (a video podcast of the student) that includes the following:
- One news item that addresses an issue or concern related to social services and/or public assistance programs; students should include the date, source, and title of the news item.
- Rationale for choosing this news item
- Historical events and legislative initiatives that contribute to the current state of this problem
- A discussion of how are health equities, social determinants, and/or social justice related to the concern in the news item
- An application of 1 intervention from the Public Health Interventions Wheel to the situation described in the news item; students should also indicate the level of practice (individual, community, or systems focused).
- Students should submit the vodcast and source citation to the instructor
