Cognitive Development Throughout the Periods of
Development
Units 5 and 6 have been devoted to understanding cognitive
development. Understanding the cognitive changes that occur from infancy
through adolescence can help parents and educators create a supportive and
nurturing environment that aligns with their child’s needs. For this
assignment, imagine that you have been asked to provide an overview to parents
and educators of cognitive development changes that can occur during the four
periods of development – infancy/toddlerhood, early childhood, middle childhood,
and adolescence. Various cognitive theories (Piaget’s theory, information
processing perspective, and Vygotsky’s theory) will be considered and you will
complete a PowerPoint presentation to present this overview. Piagetian
concepts, information processing concepts, and language development should be
used to highlight cognitive attainments at each period of development. The role
of social interactions and culture in cognitive development, with some
reference to Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, will also be considered and ways
adults can promote cognitive development at each period of development should
be discussed. Presenter notes should be used to supplement the information on
the slides.

Your assignment should use the Unit 6 Assignment Template
and be a minimum eight-slide PowerPoint presentation, not including the title
and reference slides, and should include the following elements:
- Title
slide: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section
number, and date. - Content
slides: Answer all the questions, reflecting appropriate personal
and professional insights. - The
assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior
organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose. Your
responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper
tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct,
accurate, and reflect knowledge of child and adolescent psychology. - Presentations
are visual; therefore, use clear, concise bullet points and avoid crowded
slides. You may include the use of graphics and SmartArt to streamline
information in a memorable manner. Additionally, images and diagrams are
wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required
citations. Please review the Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations resource
for tips and suggestions. Submissions must be in .pptx format and no
larger than 40 MB. - Note: Visual
effects and some dark colored themes, such as Slate, may prevent Turnitin
from fully processing a PowerPoint file and, consequently, from
generating a Similarity Report. Review the file requirements to ensure a report will be
generated. - Presenter
notes should be used to supplement the information on the slides. - Reference
slide: Sources listed in current APA format. - Cite
and reference at minimum your course textbook to support
your responses and conclusions. You can also incorporate additional
scholarly or academic sources from the PG library to support your
response. - Use
Arial or Times New Roman 24-point font. - Use
current APA formatting and citation style. - Please
use this helpful video resource, APA Style Formatting in PowerPoint, to format a
PowerPoint by applying current APA style to a title slide; body slides
using bullet points, figures, tables, and copyright statements; and a
reference list with hanging indentations.
