Astronomy has always been a diverse field of study, but one challenge to maintaining this diversity has been making sure that leading figures receive the credit that they are due. For this assignment, you’ll learn more about some of these pioneering astronomers, engineers, and astronauts of the modern era.
In a well-written paper, summarize the personal life and scientific contributions of two of the people listed below. This paper should be typed in standard academic format: one-inch margins, 12-point professional font, double-spaced, etc. Your paper should be at least three and no more than four pages in total, and every sentence in your paper should serve a clear purpose. Don’t write filler. You’ll be graded on your writing style as well as on the content you present.
Write at least one full page about each of the people you choose. Also include an introduction and a conclusion for the paper as a whole. Find a theme that connects the people you choose. You’re encouraged to perform cursory searches for many people on the list until you discover astronomers whose research you can weave together into a coherent narrative.
Do not plagiarize. This includes mosaic plagiarism.
Use at least three different reliable sources for each person. (Wikipedia is generally reliable in this case but is not appropriate to cite here, although you may find Wikipedia useful for locating other sources.) If appropriate, one source may be cited for both people, which means you’ll need at least five sources in total.
Cite your sources! Include in-line citations in the text and a list of references at the end of the paper. In a fact-finding paper like this, almost every sentence should have at least one in-line citation. Every in-line citation should point to a source in the list of references, and every source in the list of references should be used at least once in the text. The list of references does not count towards the number of pages in the paper. Any major citation style will be acceptable (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.)
