Choose one moment (a sentence or passage) from “In the Cemetery Where Al Jolson Is Buried” by Amy Hempel and one moment (sentence/passage) from “The Great Silence” by Ted Chiang. These two moments do not have to be related, although if you see a connection be sure to note that.
For discussion: post each quote from each story. Underneath each quote, briefly discuss why you chose it: what about it did you find beautiful, confusing, disturbing, essential, etc.?
As with the previous discussion, also reply to at least one of your classmates. Don’t worry if someone else chooses the same moment as you. That could be something to discuss.
