This activity allows you to demonstrate your critical thinking skills and your understanding of strategic planning, management, workforce assessment, and legal considerations in writing a job description that supports the needs of the organization and is legally compliant.

In Week 3, you developed the Essential Functions and Qualifications for one of the Human Resources positions you researched in the O*NET database. In this assignment, you will complete the full job description for that same position.

The elements of this assignment will be used to complete your Staffing Process Framework, which will be submitted as your Week 9 Assignment.

Prepare

The Workforce Planning, Legal Considerations, and Job Descriptions Template, linked below, will guide you through the key elements of your job description. Download the template and change the file name to include your first initial and last name (for example, cf_BUS335_w05a1_template_SPeters.docx).

Use the information you previously submitted in the Week 3 assignment, modified and revised as suggested by your instructor, to complete the Essential Functions and Qualifications sections. To complete the remaining sections of the job description, access the O*NET OnlineLinks to an external site. database, using the same job title from the Week 3 activity. Write in complete sentences and use a professional tone. Be sure to cite your sources. Note: You may find it necessary to group more than one of the task statements into a single essential function.

Instructions

In the Workforce Planning, Legal Considerations, and Job Descriptions Template [DOCX] Download Workforce Planning, Legal Considerations, and Job Descriptions Template [DOCX], complete the following:

  • Analyze the key elements of workforce planning and assessment as part of the staffing process you will follow in your organization. Be specific and support your points.
  • Describe the principal federal laws that impact and influence organizations when creating job descriptions and hiring employees.
    • Summarize the impact each law has on the staffing process. Support your points.
  • Analyze what is meant by a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ), providing at least three examples that can be applied when creating job descriptions. Support your points.
  • Create a well-written job description the organization can use when hiring employees.
    • Describe the essential functions, qualifications, and other characteristics of the job.
    • Make sure the job description is complete, correct, organized, and professional in tone.
    • Use your revised work from the Week 3 assignment for this section of the template.
  • Use at least three sources to support your writing. Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate. For help with research, writing, and citation, access the library or review library guides.
    • You may cite your textbook and O*NET Online.
    • List your sources in the Sources section of the template.

When you are finished, save your work and submit the completed template.
