Evaluate:
This means that you need to create a balanced academic
discussion, based on appropriate resources e.g.
good quality resources (professional guidelines, policies, journal
articles…) to inform your work, and be referenced to show where the information
supporting your discussion points has come from. Try to avoid description
(e.g., simply telling us what a certain source says) and turn it into an
evaluation by putting it into context and forming an evidence-based conclusion.
This will be influenced by your discussion of the strengths and limitations of
the evidence base considered. (e.g., why have you chosen this piece of evidence
to illustrate/support your conclusion? does this agree with other sources? Are
the any problems/inconsistencies with the information in the sources?).
Effectiveness on patient outcomes:
Part of showing how effective the model is will be to
discuss what the actual patient outcomes were in the studies you use. How much
better was the outcome using the model, what was it compared to, was it any
better than the comparison, are there any problems with the outcome measures
used, did patients accept the intervention?
Use of biopsychosocial model:
What is the model? How is it used in practice? Does
your evidence support or critique its use in clinical practice?
General considerations:
We advise focusing on two areas, allowing you to
explore in depth rather than a more generalised overview of themes. You have an
opportunity to create a balanced discussion. What are the positive influences
of using this approach? What are the potential drawbacks? What must be
considered from a professional viewpoint? Again, we will be expecting to see
this discussion being supported by references.
