Do a reflective write up using
the deontological ethical theory as an indication of critical thinking.
Think about the ‘Black
Wednesday’ event that shook the entire country (PNG) especially the capital
city of Port Moresby through looting and burning down of shops mostly owned by
foreign businessmen.
When disgruntled members of
the PNG Police force went on a strike due to a hefty tax cut from their salary
there was no policing in the capital city of Port Moresby. That eventually
created an avenue for opportunists; mainly young children with mothers, the
youth and others who took the law into their own hands to break into stores and
warehouses to steal, loot and burn down the buildings. It is estimated that
millions of kina worth of loss was inflicted on the business owners.
Using the deontological
ethical theory (law and duty-oriented ethics) write a reflective piece that
captures
a) Do you think that the
actions of the opportunists on black Wednesday is an indication of PNG being a
weak society with degrading moral values and the younger generation today are
not able to distinguish the right from wrong?
