Part I: Read chapter one in your course textbook, analyze, and discuss how the relationship between stiffness in a medium and propagation speed help to identify the relative age of plaque deposits in a vessel. Further explain how this information is useful when evaluating the condition of the patient. Breakdown your answer in the following three parts:
- Be sure to first explain the direct or indirect relationship of stiffness and propagation speed.
- Then evaluate how an increase or decrease in the return speed to the source would affect the echogenicity of the screen.
- This should lead into your rationale for how we can generally determine the age of the plaque by its sonographic appearance and how we can further evaluate the condition of the patient.
