Appropriate introduction – 5 parts- Appropriate organization – Introduction, Body, Conclusion
- At least 3 outside sources – these must be referenced in the body of the speech itself; credit will not be given for sources if you do not mention them specifically in your speech
- Appropriate conclusion – 5 parts
- A typed, full-text manuscript outline and works cited section – needs to be uploaded to Canvas by the due date stated in the course calendar.
- URL to uploaded video of the speech posted on the appropriate discussion board by the due date stated in the course calendar.
- Extemporaneous delivery – reading your speech will result in AT LEAST a letter grade deduction.
- Evidence of persuasive development – Your thesis statement should tell us WHY you want us to do/feel/think/believe what you want us to do/feel/think/believe. For example, if your specific purpose is to persuade your audience to volunteer for ___ organization, your thesis statement should answer the question, “WHY should I volunteer for ___ organization?” If someone asked you that question, you would tell them, “Because…” and then come up with reasons they should do what you want them to do, right? So a possible thesis statement might be: “You should volunteer for ___ organization because you will be helping people, it will look good on your resume, and you will feel good about yourself.”
