the writings of the Federalists and Anti-Federalists, specifically, The Anti-Federalist Papers (essay by Brutus) and The Federalist Papers, No. 10 and No. 51.

Once you have read and reviewed these documents, write five hundred word, five-paragraph paper. The paper should be double-spaced, in a 12-point font size. The paper will focus on the strengths of the arguments put forth by those supporting and opposing the ratification of the Constitution. The paper should contain the following:

  1. Introduction paragraph: Introduce the paper and end the paragraph with a well-developed thesis statement.
  2. Body paragraph #1: A discussion of the strengths of the arguments opposing the Constitution.
  3.  Body paragraph #2: A discussion of the strengths of the responses and arguments supporting the Constitution.
  4.  Body paragraph #3: A discussion of how these arguments are still applicable today.
  5.  Conclusion: Bring the paper to a close.

You are expected to support your discussions with language from the reading and explain why they are important. As always, when you quote, paraphrase, or summarize someone’s words or ideas, you are expected to provide proper citation. The citation style used in this course is Chicago, which requires both footnotes and a bibliography. Please see the “Citation Assistance Worksheet” for more details on how to complete Chicago-style citations and footnotes.
