Research Project for my Sociolinguistics class. “All students will conduct a small empirical sociolinguistic project of their own; written
up in the form of a mini research paper. The
required length of the paper is 8-10 pages.” In my topic i wanted to compare Johnny Cash, the 3 Hank Williamses as representatives of southern dialect in country music with Keith Urban, a nonnative to the accent. A section at the end is supposed to focus on lyrical choices that can aid in stylization (when a singer takes on certain features of an accent) and audience expectations and receptions regarding authenticity and performativity. Attached is a very rough draft of where it should go. I simply ran out of time.
