How can the study of early African societies enrich our understanding of world history?

For your second short essay, I ask that you consider African societies’ importance to world history
prior to 1700 CE. Specifically, I ask that you ruminate on our materials to derive a specific point vital
to understanding the experiences, actions, and perspectives of African societies before 1700. Your
essay need not address this entire period; nor does not have to reference every society we explore in
Unit 2. What it does need to do consider the stakes attached to our various topics in this unit to
provide an answer the following question: How can the study of early African societies enrich our
understanding of world history? Aim to take a definitive stand on this question. In other words, it
won’t suffice to use your essay to offer several answers to this question. Come up with one and
then use your essay to explain the thinking that lays behind it.
