Hollywood, along with independent production companies, continues to remake A Christmas Carol and/or Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. These two films continue to endure, and are perhaps the most adapted of our classic novels (along with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein), although directors and screenwriters have taken many liberties with the original source material, as we have seen in the adaptations we screened in class. Below are two essay prompts, one of which you will use to write your first analytical essay. Use the ENG 225 Film Analysis Sheet to focus on two of the elements of presentation (narrative/story and acting/character) to analyze for your essay. If you want to focus on one of the other elements, you may do so. If some of your discussion post writing is relevant, feel free to use some of it in the paper.
